SafeWays, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a proven track record of reducing and preventing crime in Memphis and Shelby County apartment communities, is pleased to announce that a $5,000 Community Development Grant from First Tennessee Bank has enabled it to expand services to an additional 351 apartment units across four properties. First Tennessee’s grant funds have enabled SafeWays to begin providing services immediately to Robinhood Park Apartments, a low-income community managed by ALCO Management. Lamar Crossing, a low-income community managed by LEDIC Management Group has also been allocated grant funds for 2019, and has already attained fully certified status. First Tennessee’s grant funds will also enable SafeWays to provide services to two smaller apartment properties in Frayser, managed by Makowsky, Ringel, Greenberg, which are in close proximity to Delano Elementary School.
“SafeWays is incredibly grateful to First Tennessee Bank for its continued support of our mission to create safer environments for Memphis apartment-dwellers,” said SafeWays’ Managing Director Janine Heiner Buchanan. “We have received grant funds from First Tennessee for three years now. This has allowed us to serve a large number of properties that could not have participated in our program otherwise. Substantial improvements have already been achieved at the properties served with grant funds in prior years, and we anticipate the same with these four new properties.”
As a part of the SafeWays program, management at all four properties will now receive regular site visits and lighting inspections, along with email notifications of offenses, arrests, and calls for police services on their properties, along with advocacy and assistance in dealing with blighted and nuisance properties in their vicinity which impact the residents at the SafeWays-participating communities.
